membership at chbc
At CHBC, we believe every member in a body of believers is committed to a common calling and a common vision, engaged with the vision, mission, and purpose of the church. As part of our membership process, we want to ensure that we are very clear in our vision, mission, and purpose so that we may enter into a covenant with one another, to cultivate a healthy and united Biblical community where Jesus is known and lives are transformed.
Here is a brief overview of who are and what to expect as a member of CHBC. If you’d like to sign up for our membership class, what we call CHBC Connect, a registration form will be available at the bottom of this page. Our membership classes typically happen the second Sunday of each month and provide an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about who we are.
The wisest man who ever lived, King Solomon, once wrote, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18). The New American Standard Bible says, “…the people are unrestrained.” The more accurate translation of the word “vision” is “revelation”. The idea is that when there is no revealed direction from God, people scatter in every possible direction. A vision, or a revelation from God, creates a funnel through which all activity flows.
A church that follows God’s vision is a church that moves forward in unity and power. Without a vision, the church may be involved in many good things, but it functions with less efficiency, intentionality, and purpose.
The vision of the early church, as given by Jesus prior to His ascension back to heaven, is found in Matthew 28:19-20 - “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Thus, our church membership consists of baptized believers who share a common vision. Our vision, extrapolated from Christ’s command, is for us to equip and encourage everyone to know Christ and follow Him.
The manifestation of who we are and how we aim to make sure everyone has a chance to know Christ and follow Him is through our four pillars.
We are committed to seeking Christ and following His lead through His revealed word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Our pastors are committed to loving, leading, and equipping the family of believers.
CHBC deacons are called and ordained by God to minister to our family of believers through servant leadership.
We are a family of believers committed to serve within the body of Christ with their gifts, talents, abilities, and resources.
In order to maintain the integrity of our four pillars, there are certain values we must all share hold to. These are essential and non-negotiable qualities that must define our church and be shared, embraced, and adhered to by each member.
At CHBC, we must be committed to equipping believers through Christ’s revealed Word.
We experience Christ-centered worship at every opportunity, privately and corporately.
Relationships within the body of believers must be Christ centered, reflecting the peace and reconciliation of the Gospel.
Through the power of the Gospel, members engage in Christ led outreach in our city, state, and around the world.
Our CHBC Connect membership class is a great way to learn about the resources and programs available at CHBC, how to connect with other believers, and ask any questions you might have about the church. CHBC Connect is held the second Sunday of every month.
